FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – Achilles Sydney

I can’t even run 100 metres! Can I still attend training sessions?

Achilles Sydney welcomes anyone of any ability. Whether you have mobility issues or injuries that prevent you from running or you can run a marathon in record time, we welcome you to our club. If you have a goal in mind, our guides will train with you to help reach those goals.

I’d like to volunteer, how can I be of assistance?

Volunteers are warmly welcomed for a number of roles. These include assisting with guiding athletes with disability to run and/or walk, looking after guide dogs and running/walking with athletes at events. We try our best to match your pace to someone similar to you. However, you must be prepared to slow down to a walking pace for our athletes who are starting to build up their fitness or are walking only. Volunteers can also offer to act as a guide outside weekly Sunday training sessions and/or assist with transport to/from training and events.

When does training occur?

We train every Sunday morning at 8am, around the Domain and Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney. We can also organise individual ad-hoc training upon request (depending on guide availability). Please see our training page for details. We meet rain, hail or shine…so be prepared for anything!

What if I can’t attend regularly?

You are welcome to attend as frequently as your schedule permits! We just ask that you RSVP by Friday 5pm each week so we can organise the training roster.

Can I get assistance to and from training?

Where possible, we try to organise a guide to pick you up and drop you off. We can also organise guides to meet and walk with you from a nearby train/bus/metro station.

What’s the parking situation like?

We offer parking passes to athletes, guides and their carers for the duration of training. Just let us know when you RSVP.

I’m still not sure about joining

Come along for a trial – we are a relaxed and friendly club, there is no obligation to join. We provide the necessary training for new guides. Send an email to info@achilles-sydney.org.au

Even if you can’t spare any of your time we always need donations to keep the charity working for our athletes so that they can train weekly & participate in great events.
