Social Media Policy

Each Achilles club hosts online forums for all members to connect and share news and stories about running events. Currently, these forums include:

  • Achilles Brisbane – Athletes & Guides connect
  • Private group Achilles Canberra
  • Member’s Forum for Achilles Melbourne
  • Achilles Sydney – Open
  • Achilles Sydney – members group
  • Instagram accounts.

Discourse between members on online forums must also adhere to the requirements of the Club Code of Conduct. In addition, members must also adhere to the following:
A.      Sharing photos (including videos):

  • One of obvious Achilles successes in recent years has been the development of the social media platforms. Pictures of Achilles members at events, at training or in other settings are often used to show how the Club functions or to showcase achievements.
  • If any member does not want his or her pictures to appear on our social media platforms, they should advise the platform administrators or a member of the Committee.
  • While the administrators of the open Achilles FB page will be able to filter any pictures of members who have declined to have their pictures posted, the closed Members FB Page and Instagram offer bigger challenges.
  • We thus ask members to ensure that fellow members have consented before posting pictures on our open social media platforms.
  • Photos of minors (children under 18 years of age) must not be shared unless consent has been provided to the moderators of the forum. Any photos shared without parent/guardian consent sighted by the moderators will be immediately removed.
  • Subjects of posted photos and videos have the right to request for their photo to be removed from online forums.

B.      Sharing fundraising projects/soliciting personal businesses

  • In most cases, Achilles would like to promote your fundraising cause/personal business. Approval must be sought from our moderators before posting fundraising links to ensure that they align with our values.
  • Any non-approved posts relating to fundraising or personal businesses will be removed.

C.      Sharing posts outside Achilles Member’s Forums

  • Permission must be sought to share posts to non-Achilles groups.
  • Content must not be modified without the consent of the author of the initial post.

Breaches of the Social Media Policy

  • Any member in breach of the Code of Conduct will be referred to the chapter-specific committee
  • Details of any breach will be reviewed as soon as practicable by the Committee of the relevant Achilles chapter
  • Breaches of the Social Media Policy may lead to a warning or expulsion.
  • Please immediately report inappropriate actions or behaviors to your Club leadership.

Breaches of the Code of Conduct.

  1. Breaches of the Code of Conduct will lead to a warning or expulsion.
  2. Please immediately report any inappropriate actions or behaviours, to a member of the Committee, or to another Club member whom you may prefer.
  3. The leadership of the Club is committed to investigating the breach as soon as practicable. The investigation will be thorough yet discreet. At all times the privacy of the complainant will be paramount. No disclosure of the complaint will be shared with any other individual without the express permission of the complainant.
  4. If such behaviour involves the member of another Achilles Club, the Committee of that Club will be involved in the remedial process.

Achilles Australia Waiver

Running and walking are physical activities that carry a number of risks. Such risks include health-related consequences and it is my responsibility to ensure I am fit and able to take part in any Achilles running or walking event or training session. It is my responsibility to seek advice from my GP and to obtain clearance to participate in running or walking events.

Other risks include possible trips, falls and collisions, and I accept that my participation in Achilles-organised activities is strictly voluntary and is done so entirely at my own risk.

I agree to accept that Achilles Australia has no blame for injury, loss and damage sustained by me.

Furthermore, I acknowledge that participation in an Achilles event may present the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus, despite the implementation of processes designed to mitigate such risks. I knowingly assume such risks.

I understand that Achilles Australia provides only running or walking advice and guidance, companionship and encouragement. If, at any stage, I am uncomfortable or concerned with any aspect of the guiding, I will bring it to the immediate attention of my guides or the person I am guiding. If I have continued concerns about the safety and comfort of Achilles activities, I will inform Achilles Australia of these concerns.
I acknowledge that occasionally Achilles Australia will register me for events organised by third parties. I hereby grant Achilles Australia permission to act as proxy on my behalf for those events, with full authorisation to execute consents, waivers and releases included in the event registration process. This will usually include the allowing of the event organisers to use photographs, videos, recordings or any other record of my participation in the events for any legitimate purpose, without remuneration.

I have read this waiver and agree to the terms.

Even if you can’t spare any of your time we always need donations to keep the charity working for our athletes so that they can train weekly & participate in great events.
