2nd April 2020
Dear Achilles member, volunteer, supporter,
I hope you are safe and have been faring as well as possible under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. I write to share several updates on what Achilles International in New York is doing to keep moving forward.
While remaining hopeful that this isn’t a long-term situation, we all respect the need to extend the suspension of our workouts. Due to the rapidly-changing nature of this public health crisis, Achilles feels it is best to keep our return date open-ended, rather than share hypothetical dates that, by necessity, might need to shift.
Obviously, it is deeply disappointing for us to postpone our weekly workouts, and unsettling to have such an unclear picture of the next few months. As a community, and individually, we are doing what is necessary to best support the health and wellness of our families, our neighbors and each other. We will get through all of this uncertainty together.
While we are not physically together, we are putting our energy towards finding new, creative, and smart ways to find togetherness and to stay connected. Information about all we are offering can be found on our website and in this letter. Please join us while we practice social distance and digital proximity!
#ACHILLESSTRONG - OUR VIRTUAL PROGRAMS:
Achilles International is offering at-home workouts led by an all-star coaching duo, Michael Anderson, (NYC Chapter Director and RRCA Certified Coach) and Francesco Magisano (Para-triathlete and Director of the Achilles Triathlon program).
Workouts are posted to our Facebook Page five times per week and include sessions that emphasize cardio, strength training, stretching and yoga. Workouts are accessible and, whenever possible, feature descriptive video.
We are encouraging everyone across the globe to join the Achilles International Club on Strava where we can support, challenge and connect with each other. Upload your workouts, share your accomplishments, like and comment on each other’s progress. It’s basically Facebook but for fitness and training!
Our community of athletes, volunteers, supporters and staff is one founded in resilience and determination. We have each and, more importantly, together, stayed strong during a multitude of storms and difficult moments. That attitude and what we as a community represent is as important today as ever before.
Stay safe, stay in touch and be well.
Yours,
Emily Glasser
